Texas Ballet Theater | STEVEN VISNEAU Photography | 2013/14 Season

Sisterbrother photographer Steven Visneau had the pleasure of working with the Texas Ballet Theater this year, photographing dancers for the company’s 2013/14 Campaign. Below, Steven discusses working with dancers, how the experience affects him and shares behind-the-scenes images.

It all came about from a previous FDLuxe Magazine shoot. I met the director of the ballet which spawned talks of the 2013/14 campaign. A fortunate meeting which started the development of a relationship with a faction of the Dallas Arts scene that I greatly admire.

My obsession with ballet is deep. These artists are some of the most talented and dedicated people I have ever encountered. Their commitment to the art of dance, the hours to train, friendship among the dancers…everything in that house is special. I was honored to be let in with such open arms. They really are a family.

My Daughter has been dancing for 8 years. Spending time with the Texas Ballet Theater Company made me understand why she is so excited to go to her studio five nights a week, give up ties with friends, skip sleepovers, etc. – just to be a part of a company.

The obsession many photographers have with dancers is easily justified. Their body control is one obvious plus. They have an ability to fuse modesty with confidence along with control. Something maybe only a dancer can achieve.

I just had our creative meeting for shooting 2014/15. I thought I was excited last year but now that relationships with the dancers have been established, I think we will be able to push the boundaries for next season.

A note to all: Support the arts here and everywhere!!!

We are so excited to see what next year’s collaboration brings!
